First blog post

I think the default title for this post is fitting. I also don’t know what to call it. I’m interested to see if this whole writing thing is going to work for me; or if it’s going to ease my anxiety about officially moving out of my parents house and into the big city. Even though I’ve spent the majority of the last four years in New York, there’s something completely different about being there for college versus moving there for a full time job. It’s permanent. I have 10 more days until I’m no longer a CT resident. And even though it’s scary, it’s exciting.

Today I bought a bed. This for me is what makes it permanent. I lived on campus for all four years of college, so I always had a “dorm bed” (you know, the twin XL that needed 4 mattress pads, a mattress cover, a bed bug protector, and was lifted so far off the ground you need a running start to get up that high?).  And I love my bed at home, so knowing I purchased a different mattress that I will soon be calling “my bed” (and looking forward to being in all day) is weird. This mattress is more of a symbol for me than signing the lease!

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. First of all, renting in NYC is absurd. It’s the worst. Especially when trying to find an apartment while you’re living 3 hours away. But that’s a post for another day. We went to Ikea last week, my Grandma gave me some hand-me-downs, and I have some “adult” things that I’ve collected over the past 4 years. But my favorite purchase is the white scalloped quilt I found on Amazon. I bought it in a king size even though my mattress is a queen (!!!), because the reviews said it runs small, and I have a feeling I’ll be needing lots of under the bed storage.

So here’s to the next 10 days of packing, to starting life as an adult, and to jumping into the blogosphere!
